This talented ensemble presents a fresh interpretation of Tolkien’s trilogy, told through the eyes of the Hobbits. The story begins in the peaceful Shire, where Bilbo Baggins celebrates his eleventy-first birthday and gifts his nephew Frodo a mysterious gold ring, an act that sets in motion a perilous quest across Middle-earth to the shadowy lands of Mordor. Alongside his loyal Fellowship, Frodo embarks on a journey that tests courage, loyalty, and the enduring power of friendship.

Rahman (Bombay Dreams, Slumdog Millionaire), Finnish folk band Värttinä, and Tony Award winner Christopher Nightingale (Matilda the Musical), the musical creates a powerful and immersive soundscape that draws audiences deep into Tolkien’s world.

Produced by Kevin Wallace Productions and Middle-earth Enterprises (MEE), under license from MEE, the exclusive worldwide owner of motion picture and stage rights to The Lord of the Rings, the musical features book and lyrics by Shaun McKenna (Maddie, La Cava) and Matthew Warchus (Groundhog Day).

Tolkien’s characters have resonated with readers for more than 70 years thanks to their humanity, vulnerability, and strength. Reflecting that enduring appeal, the musical emphasises the power of people coming together, respect, kindness, and a deep sense of community – themes that play out not only onstage but also in the connection between the performers and the audience.

The Lord of the Rings – A Musical Tale offers an intimate and heartfelt storytelling experience. In this interpretation, the characters are relatable, and the themes resonate, engaging audiences of all ages, from lifelong Tolkien fans to those discovering Middle-earth for the first time.
